Johnny Depp to Keep Rum Diary

Johnny Depp is looking for a leading lady.

ComingSoon points out a casting notice received by TheBadandUgly that is for a female role in “The Rum Diary.” Johnny Depp has been rumored since 2005 to star in this adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s book. Depp would play “Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist writing for a rundown newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico and surrounded by a bunch of lost souls bent on self-destruction.” It’s based on Thompson’s own experiences.

Depp previously starred in an adaptation of Thompson’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and got to be friends with the writer (Depp supposedly paid for Thompson’s funeral, but I’m not 100% sure if that’s true). The casting notice said the movie has a March 2009 start date. Depp’s just come off doing a cameo as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and based on his IMDb page, is rather free.

Oh my goodness! She’s translucent! I think that would freak most guys out, but I guess if Depp is playing a drunk reporter in 1950s Puerto Rico, he probably won’t notice. And she loves to dance AND drive fast? Mercy, who will control this whirlwind?!!

Yeah, I won’t be sending in for this notice.
