John Woo Wants To Make Sports Movie With Chinese Olympic Stars

John Woo seems to have become rather excited by the recent Olympic Games in Beijing, and now wants to make a sports movie starring superstar Chinese athletes Guo Jingjing and Liu Xiang. However, Terence Chang, Woo’s long-time working partner doesn’t know anything about it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Woo was talking at a charity dinner in Beijing, where the Olympics ended on Sunday, when he announced his plans.
“I have wanted to produce a sports-themed movie for some time now. I want real athletes to be my lead actors so that we can portray the athlete’s spirit accurately.”
“I think Guo Jingjing and Liu Xiang will fit the bill.”
As Chang doesn’t know anything about the possible future project, maybe Woo was just thinking out loud, or possibly under the influence of alcohol. And with three projects already in the works, a sequel to Red Cliff, Chinese Revolution movie 1949, and a movie based on graphic novel Caliber starring Johnny Depp, Woo probably isn’t going to have time to start any new movie any time soon.
Maybe Woo was just trying to foster some publicity in his native country by mentioning the two superstars of Chinese athletics at the moment. The gorgeous Guo won two diving gold medals at Beijing 2008, while Liu had to cry off with an injury at the last minute but it still regarded as the pin-up of Chinese sportsmen.
