John Lennon Biopic ‘Nowhere Boy’ Secures Director

John Lennon Biopic ‘Nowhere Boy’

It was announced in July that a new biopic was being made in the UK about John Lennon. The film would be based on Nowhere Boy, a book by Lennon’s half-sister Julia Baird, and deal particularly with his early life being raised by his aunt Mimi.

The film is being funded by the UK Film Council’s development fund for established film-makers, with the screenplay being penned by Matt Greenhalgh, the man who brought the short life of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis to the big screen in Control.

More details have now emerged over the movie, with The Hollywood Reporter claiming that visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood has signed on as director. Casting for the major roles is now said to be under way, and filming is set to take place in Lennon’s home town of Liverpool as soon as all the elements are in place.

Taylor-Wood said:

“The women in John’s early life truly shaped who he became, and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film.”

I’m very pleased to hear this movie is getting made as John Lennon is an absolute legend, not only for his music but for his rights campaigning over the years. He, along with the rest of The Beatles, changed the world with a collection of pop songs that still remain fresh and relevant to this day.

I hope this movie gives a good account of Lennon’s early life and shows us the roots that made The Beatles the band they went on to become. But please, don’t give Paul McCartney a part in it.
