There’s something strange going on with American television these days. A show can get good viewing figures and have some vociferous fans but still get canceled. It’s like just because it’s not succeeded in becoming the next Lost or Heroes, a show which everyone talks about whether they’ve seen it or not, that’s it, let’s pack up and go home.
I hate this approach because you start getting into a show and then have it taken away from you. And there’s usually no real explanation or attempt to bring the show to some sort of natural conclusion. Here today, gone tomorrow. Luckily, several of these canceled shows could now be being turned into movies, with Jericho the latest to be rumored.
Jericho was a very original show that dealt with the aftermath of nuclear attacks on mainland U.S.A. We saw how the residents of the titular Jericho got on. Two seasons of the TV show were all we were afforded but executive producer Jon Turtletaub has told Moviehole about plans for a Jericho movie. He said:
“We’re developing a feature for Jericho. It would not require you to have seen the TV show, but it get into life after an event like this on a national scale. It would be the bigger, full on American version of what’s going on beyond the town in Jericho.”
Jericho was a great TV show that should never have been canceled, and I think it’ll make a great movie or even series of movies. With rumors of movies based on Pushing Daisies and Veronica Mars also doing the rounds, should the TV companies maybe take the hint that these shows are being killed off too early?

Jericho was a great show with a big loyal fanbase, particularly on the internet, download, dvr, streams etc.
Great that it has been saved again!
Thanks Dave for the article in support of Jericho. We are all excited about the prospect of a Jericho movie. We all would love to see more seasons of the show and if the movie is a big enough success maybe we will. If you haven’t seen the show yet it is available for viewing on many websites including YouTube and Netflix. Give it a try you never know you might like it.
Thanks Dave for this great write up and for spreading the new about the Jericho movie.
I feel the same way you do about good TV shows no longer getting a chance to build their audience.
Jericho will make a great movie.

Your right on the money Dave. You just start to get interested in a show and they pull the plug.
Viewers have had enough.
Great to see this one coming back.
You’re right, CBS killed off Jericho way too early. And that was after putting it on a 3-month hiatus during the first year, bringing it back against American Idol, canceling it, resurrecting it, and waiting about 9 months to air the abbreviated second season!
