Potential Hawkeye (and potential Best Actor nominee) Jeremy Renner.
ComingSoon found a quote from Jeremy Renner in Empire magazine that made it seem like he may be getting ready to play Marvel character Hawkeye, with a possible introduction as a cameo in “Thor” (or maybe even “Iron Man 2). Here’s what Renner said (btw, I checked Empire online and couldn’t find the original interview to link to, so more power to the adept folks at ComingSoon):
“Hawkeye could be interesting…They’re going to send me some stuff on it, see what it is, but I think they’re pretty awesome, trying to make superhero movies almost plausible and not just some fantasy thing.”
So it seems he’s up to something. I have to tell you, when I first saw the post title “Is Jeremy Renner Gonna Be Hawkeye?” I first thought there was going to be a “MASH” remake, or maybe another attempt at “The Last of the Mohicans” (not that I’m anxious for that–I like the Daniel Day-Lewis version a lot). But sadly, I am wrong.
Renner has Oscar buzz for “The Hurt Locker,” and that film might also pick up one of the Best Picture nominations. God knows we have to fill them somehow. I’m not insulting “The Hurt Locker”–it’s considered to be a very good film. But with ten Best Picture slots open in a year of seriously mediocre films, I’m not sure how much of an accomplishment a nomination would be.
