Casting news! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Clarke is in talks to join the cast of “Child 44.” Tom Hardy stars in the adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s novel, with Daniel Espinosa. Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Paddy Considine and Philip Seymour Hoffman are also in the cast.
“Child 44″ is a thriller set in Stalin-era Soviet Union. Hardy plays a military police officer investigating a series of child murders in a world filled with mistrust and lies, where crime is supposed to be gone from the workers’ paradise. As he goes deeper into the investigation, he finds himself the target of the government’s suspicions…which pretty much makes him like everyone else.
Clarke would play “a snaky man named Brodsky who is accused by Hardy of being a traitor.” Then again, in Stalinist Russia, people could accuse their friends and neighbors of being traitors just because they thought they were too loud at night and they wanted to get rid of them.
Clarke made a big impression in “Zero Dark Thirty” at the end of last year, and also appeared in “The Great Gatsby” this spring (that feels so long ago). He had a role in the unfortunate “White House Down” and stars in the upcoming “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”
