When was the last time you saw Jared Leto in a movie? Your last opportunity to catch a Jared Leto premiere was 2009, in a film called “Mr. Nobody,” which I’m guessing you might have missed, possibly due to its excruciatingly long two hour, forty one minute run time. Before that, he starred in 2007′s “Chapter 27,” where he played John Lennon’s assassin Mark David Chapman. In other words, Mr. Leto hasn’t exactly been burning up the “casting news” page, presumably because he’s been too busy with his band 30 Seconds to Mars (and a well-received documentary titled “Artifact”).
Until now–today we have news from Deadline that he has been cast in “Dallas Buyers Club.” Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner are set to star. This is the movie that’s made McConaughey lose tons of weight and give up his abs and tan.
That makes sense because he’s playing a man with AIDS. The story:
“Dallas centers on Ron Woodruff (McConaughey), who was given six months to live after contracting AIDS in 1986 and spent the next six years smuggling medicine into the U.S. to help himself and fellow sufferers.”
Leto will play a cross-dressing AIDS patient.
Is this a return to acting for Leto, or did he just like the script? I guess we’ll find out.
