James McAvoy Says No Old/Young Charles Xavier Scenes in “X-Men: Days of Future Past
James McAvoy doesn't think he'll meet his futue self in "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Who knew today would be such a big James McAvoy news day? One story about him is enough to brighten our hearts, but two is enough to send us (or at least me) skipping down the street while thinking about rainbows and unicorns.
Now as to the news–which I pretty much gave away in the title, I’m afraid. In an interview with Empire, McAvoy mentioned that he doesn’t think his young version of Charles Xavier will have any scenes with Patrick Stewart’s older version of the character in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” To quote: “I don’t think there’s any future self talking to past self.”
That means if you’re hoping to see McAvoy and Stewart work together, you have a better shot at seeing them onstage in a dream production of “Hamlet,”with McAvoy in the title role and Stewart as Claudius (no, I don’t think he’s too old). Well, actually, if you want Shakespeare and McAvoy, he’s onstage in London right now in a production of “Macbeth.” Tickets are hard to come by, I imagine. McAvoy will next be seen on screen in Danny Boyle’s “Trance.”
Directed by Bryan Singer, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” will reunite cast members from Singer’s original cycle of “X-Men” films, with the cast of 2011′s successful relaunch of the project, “X-Men: First Class.” The cast of “Days of Future Past” includes (so far) Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, and Peter Dinklage.
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is set for a July 18, 2014 release.
