If you’ve been wondering what’s left for James Franco to do, well, you’re not alone. Surely Franco’s also been wondering what he’s missed after acting on TV, in acclaimed indie films, big budget superhero franchises, in stoner comedies, on a soap opera, plus being nominated for an Oscar, hosting the Oscars, going to graduate school, having art show, directing a documentary, going to graduate school, and going to graduate school. Well, other than pure porn, I guess you could say he’s missing a pure action, musclehead shot, kick, and punch kind of movie from his resume. Like a Jason Statham movie.
Which may be why Variety reports today that Franco has joined the cast of “Homefront,”Jason Statham’s next movie. It is written by Sylvester Stallone. Franco will play the villain, “an evil meth magnate named Gator.” Of course. It’s hard to imagine how this would not happen.
Franco will next be seen in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.” He has smaller roles in “Lovelace,” “The Iceman,” and “The End of the World,” and stars in “Oz, the Great and Powerful.” He’s also attached to numerous other projects as an actor, writer, or director.
