Jai Courtney Wins “Die Hard” Son Role

John McClane Sr. is not going to have a lot of patience with that sensitive boy guitar playing, kid.

Yesterday we heard from Twentieth Century Fox that Jai Courtney had won the role of Jack McClane, the son of “Die Hard” action hero John McClane in the next film in the venerable franchise. Bruce Willis, of course, stars as the senior McClane in “A Good Day to Die Hard.” John Moore is directing.

Here’s the story:

“A Good Day to Die Hard” puts McClane on an international stage — truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow — and introduces his estranged son Jack. An apple that has not fallen far from the tree, Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive – and the world safe for democracy.

Courtney was a bit of a dark horse for the role. He’s an Australian actor, best known for his work in Starz’s “Spartacus” series, but according to Deadline, he went up against bigger names like Liam Hemsworth and won. He is on a good path to becoming better known, though–Courtney just finished filming “One Shot” with Tom Cruise and is also supposed to be in “I, Frankenstein,” with Aaron Eckhart. He originally broke out with a few roles on Australian TV and won awards for his performances onstage.

“A Good Day to Die Hard” is slated for a February 14, 2013 release.
