Jack Black Talks ‘School Of Rock 2′

Jack Black Keen On ‘School Of Rock’ Sequel

I adored the first School Of Rock film. Not only did it star Jack Black, and have him interacting his kids, surely his greatest active audience, it had enough cheese to make it a tearjerker, enough laughs to make it funny, and enough of a plot to make it worth watching more than once. It was a real family film, and one which appealed to all ages. And now there may be a sequel on the way!

Although it’s not confirmed yet, according to comments by Jack Black reported on Film Industry, we should know whether School Of Rock 2 is happening within the next few weeks. Speaking at the Cannes Film festival, that is the time frame which Black gave himself to decide on the prospect. He said:

“I’d really like to do it, the last one was great. We are seriously thinking about it, there’s already a script. In a few weeks we have to decide if we go through with the project or not.“

Black didn’t confirm whether director Richard Linklater and screenwriter Mike White will be part of the project if it happens, but after the success of the first film, I’d suggest the winning formula, and team will be stuck to if possible.

The first film only cost $35 million to make, but manages to bring in box office takings of over $130 million worldwide. Rather than turn it into a big budget blockbuster, I’d like to see that formula stuck to, as it gave it a real world type of edge, and made everything very believable.

I’m trying to think where they could take the story, and all I can think of is a five years later kind of thing with Black’s school needing to raise money for some reason of another (it’s not important why) and having to stage a concert to raise the cash… possibly. Whatever they do with it, I’m excited by the prospect and would definitely go and see a sequel.
