I’ve always loved Kermit.
Jason Segel had a breakout 2008, with a starring role in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” Now the in-demand man is working on a new movie for the Muppet characters. So, what’s up with that, Jason? The MTV Movie Blog talked to him about the project and here’s what he had to say:
“It’s a big decision to try to bring back that franchise. But I’m really happy with what we’ve written – so, we’ll see.”
Considering all the people Segel has worked with (the Apatow Factory members, such as Paul Rudd, Russell Brand, Steve Carrell, etc.), can we expect cameos?
“I’ve told all of my friends that I’ve written parts for them,” Segel revealed to us. “But I have way less friends than you imagine.”
Don’t be so modest, Jason. Even though I’m personally sick of the whole Apatow sub-genre (those movies are wayyyyyy too long for comedies), the people are generally good, and if you’ve ever seen the original Muppet Movie, then you know that the cameos of live people (as opposed to, umm, unlive Muppets) were fantastic. The Steve Martin as a slow-burning waiter bit is priceless.
I’m sure Segel’s intentions are good, and the Muppets deserve to be reintroduced to pop culture, but seriously, nothing will ever top the shot of Kermit riding a bicycle that’s in the first movie. Nothing. It’s one of the all-time greatest shots in film history.
