Iron Man 2: Scarlett Black Widow?

Black Widow

Get out of the snow, Black Widow! It’s terrible for leather!

Recently it was reported that Emily Blunt might have to leave her role as Black Widow in “Iron Man 2″ because of her contractual obligation to Fox Studios (mini review: Blunt’s contract with Fox for “The Devil Wears Prada” included a requirement that she make another film with them, and it looks like that will be “Gulliver’s Travels” with Jack Black, which is set to film at the same time as “Iron Man 2″). Now ComingSoon (via Entertainment Weekly) has news that Scarlett Johansson has been in talks to take over the part.

Supposedly Blunt’s “people” are trying to work it out with the two competing film schedules, but “Gulliver” is ready to go and “Iron Man 2″ isn’t, which pretty much means that she’ll be locked into “Gulliver” if they start. That’s a shame, because as I said before, the “Gulliver” project sounds somewhat unpromising, while “Iron Man 2″ is, well, “Iron Man 2.”

Black Widow is the other identity of Natasha Romanov, a Russian spy. Black Widow’s wardrobe seems to have been based on Diana Rigg’s Mrs. Peel leather catsuit. This should suit Johansson just fine, as she seems to be playing nothing but sexy vamps; I saw one review–unfortunately can’t remember where–of “He’s Just Not That Into You” that referred to her performance as “straight from the court of ‘Match Point’ again.” Then again, maybe she’s not capable of anything else. But audiences seem to be pretty happy as long as she’s showing up with plenty of cleavage and red lipstick, so I guess she better stay on that road as long as possible.

And btw, if she does land the part, that means that “Iron Man 2″ will be graced by two overrated blondes–Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow. Sorry, I just think Blunt would have added a little character. Well, nothing’s final yet.
