Indy Films: Finally, Facts About Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones wonders who the heck all these new people are.
There’s been plenty of speculation and rumor about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but at last, producer Frank Marshall has some answers to our oh so curious questions.
Marshall talked to MTV.com about who’s who in the movie. Here’s the rundown:
- Cate Blanchett is not going to be a romantic interest for Indy; that’s still Karen Allen’s job. Instead, Blanchett will apparently play a villain type. I imagine she will have quite a bit of fun with that.
- Jim Broadbent is going to play a “Yale colleague” of Indy’s, who “sort of replaces Marcus Brody” (the late Denholm Elliott’s role in Lost Ark and Last Crusade). The real news here is what, Yale? Did Indy leave his faux Princeton job to work at Yale? I know they filmed in Connecticut, but I thought it was supposed to be the same place…
- Ray Winstone’s character, Mac, is “a sort of cross between villain Belloq and friend Sallah…an archaeologist competitor to Indy. Friend and competitor.”
Notably, Marshall said there’s no truth to the rumor that Crystal Skull is not the beginning of a new series, featuring either Harrison Ford or Shia LaBeouf.
“I don’t think so. We’re all getting too old,” Marshall playfully reported. “We have to hand the [adventure] torch to somebody else. I don’t know who that’s going to be.”
Oh come on…as Indy says: “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.”
