Amy Ryan, this is your moment, make the most of it.
Variety is reporting that Amy Ryan has joined the cast of Paul Greengrass’s latest film, an Iraq-themed thriller starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear. The film, written by Greengrass and Brian Helgeland, is fictional, but is “inspired by” Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s nonfiction book, Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone.
Recently acclaimed for her turns in Gone Baby Gone and Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Ryan will play a New York Times reporter sent to Iraq to investigate the US’s WMD claims. Damon plays an officer (presumably Army? Variety, you’re not being very clear) who joins a CIA operative in the search for WMDs. Kinnear plays “another CIA officer.”
Iraq-themed films generally haven’t done well at the box office, but there’s a first time for everything (okay, almost everything). I guess if it strikes the right tone it can have some appeal.
Filming begins in Spain…today!!! Wow, so that means right now as I’m writing this, Paul Greengrass and Co. are somewhere in Spain setting up a shot? Creepy cool.

Hello!!! I know where they are in Spain!!!!! I see them every single day!!! Im so lucky!!! We are close to the sea in 5 stars hotel. No more clues
Guess…….
……………….
Make an Iraq war film where the USA is the hero and is winning and you’ll have a box office hit. Make yet another “USA is as bad as the terrorists” and “our soldiers are pathetic victims” and you’ll have another box office stinker.
For those of us that love our country, and see it’s goodness, and how we have liberated Iraq from a ruthless, dangerous tyrant, we are waiting for a movie to cheer.
