Idris Elba Up For “The Gunman”

Idris Elba may be in tough guy movie "The Gunman."

News for Idris Elba fans (and who isn’t?): The Hollywood Reporter says that Elba is in talks to join the cast of “The Gunman.” Sean Penn and Javier Bardem are already set to star, with Pierre Morel (of “Taken”) directing.

Based on the novel “Prone Gunman” by Jean-Patrick Manchette, the movie has Penn playing “an international operative who is betrayed by the organization he works for, forcing him into a game of cat and mouse across Europe.” Elba will portray a “mysterious operative named Dupont.” Bardem will presumably be playing another bad guy.

Elba stars in the British TV series “Luther,” but also has plenty of big screen action going on. He’ll be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” in July, then in the fall in “Thor: The Dark World.” He also stars as Nelson Mandela in “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” which has a November “Oscar campaign” release date. Then he’s got “No Good Deed” set for spring 2014. Lots of Idris on the way…
