I Dream Of Jeannie is classic television show from the 1960s which saw an astronaut played by Larry Hagman marry a genie, yes, one of those things that comes out of a bottle when rubbed, played by Barbara Eden. I know, as a plot, its certainly out there, but it was massively popular at the time, and still has its fans to this day.
So as with everything old and popular, it’s no surprise that someone wants to bring it back, this time the someone being Sid Ganis and the it being a full-length feature of the show. However, the idea hasn’t had a very smooth history.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has just received its fifth rewrite, this time by Rita Hsiao, who has a massive hit rate with rewrites, having already achieved great things with 13 Going On 30 and Enchanted.
“She has a terrific, bright, fresh approach to Jeannie’s story, with a twist and turn along the way. She captured all of our imaginations in the telling of it.”
The project has been sitting on the sidelines for years, but Ganis ensures us all that was only to ensure the classic show got the big screen treatment it deserved. It now looks as though the film will finally get the go-ahead, and a cast and crew is now actively being sought.
