Hugh Laurie goes bad.
“House” is over, so what will Hugh Laurie do next? Question answered, and it’s not the answer you want, those of you hoping for an immediate Jeeves and Wooster reunion. Rather, it’s probably not what you’d expect: Heat Vision reports that Laurie is in negotiations to play the villain in the “Robocop” remake. Jose Padilha is directing, with Joel Kinnaman donning the big metal suit as the title character.
Laurie would play everyone’s favorite type of villain these days, the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop. Gary Oldman will play the scientist who creates (or turns desperately wounded regular cop Alex Murphy into Robocop). Samuel L. Jackson will play a “media mogul.”
The original movie is pretty good, although it doesn’t have the technology people are used to seeing in sci-fi action movies today. There wasn’t a crying need to remake the movie, except to update the technology, and of course, cash in on a known property. However, with the high quality cast and director they’ve put together, it’s hard to summon a lot of anger. It could be pretty good.
The film is slated for an August 9, 2013, release.
