“The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” is finally actually happening, after going from director Stephen Soderbergh to Guy Ritchie, from stars George Clooney to Tom Cruise, and countless others. Now Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer are actually starring in the big screen adaptation of the 1960s Cold War Spy series, with filming set to begin this fall. And how nice for Cavill and Hammer, they’re getting other cast members to hang out with them. In addition to female lead Alicia Vikander, Deadline reports that Hugh Grant has now joined the cast. He will play the head of British naval intelligence. Oh good, now we know that the plot has something to do with British ships.
Grant’s film appearances have been few and far between lately. In 2012 he was in the odd mess “Cloud Atlas,” and lent his voice to “The Pirates! Band of Misfits.” Before that, he hadn’t been in a movie since 2009. Then again, that movie was the comedy disaster “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” so maybe was a bit gunshy. Anyway, the point is that the charming Mr. Grant hasn’t seemed to feel a really desperate need to work. However, he is currently filming an untitled comedy with Marisa Tomei and Allison Janney for director Marc Lawrence before moving on to “U.N.C.L.E.” so maybe he’s in the mood for activity.
