Hey Boo Boo! - ‘Yogi Bear’ Movie On Way

No-one can have escaped the exploits of Yogi Bear in their lifetime. The classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons may have been made in the 1960s but they’ve been repeated ad nauseum ever since, and found a new set of fans with every passing generation. So it’s no surprise to hear that a movie is now being made starring the mischievous bear and his sidekick Boo Boo.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be a live-action/CG hybrid in the style of Alvin and The Chipmunks. The movie will be filmed in live action with a computer generated Yogi and Boo Boo added afterwards. Which sounds naff but it could work I suppose.
Warner Bros. is the studio involved, with Ash Brannon (Surf’s Up) attached to direct. Yogi Bear first appeared in 1958 as a supporting character in The Huckleberry Hound Show but got his own show in 1961 thanks to being so lovable while he stole picnic baskets and tore unsuspecting tourists visiting Jellystone Park limb from limb. I made that last part up.
I’d probably go and see this movie, as although I’m unlikely to be in the targeted demographic (being over the age of 12), I have fond memories of the cartoons. Having said that, I had fond memories of the Alvin and The Chipmunks cartoons and look how that turned out.
