As we approach the end of 2008, many people will start to ponder their ‘Top Ten Films Of The Year’ lists, me included. One movie guaranteed to be on that list is The Dark Knight, the Batman Begins sequel which saw fine performances from Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, and Michael Caine.
The Dark Knight is also a firm fan favorite, currently having the highest average score of any 2008-released live-action film on Rotten Tomatoes. What’s more, the movie made an incredible amount of money at the box-office, making it the second most successful film ever made behind Titanic. And the DVD hasn’t even been released yet.
But none of this matters a jot when the Academy comes to making its choice for Oscar nominations. Due to snobbery, mainstream films, including comic-book hero movies such as The Dark Knight, tend to be ignored in favor of less-popular but more arty films.
I’m not alone in thinking it would be a travesty if The Dark Knight didn’t at least get nominated for ‘Best Picture’, and so a new website called Dark Campaign has been started to try and shorten the odds of The Dark Knight receiving some Oscar nominations.
I personally feel the Oscars has become less important and more out of touch with reality over the past few years. If The Dark Knight isn’t at least nominated in a few categories, including ‘Best Picture’, I fear Hollywood will finally have disappeared up its own ass.

I think Hollywood is even more hesitant to nominate it for anything because of the underlying conservative themes.
