Has David Yates Been Chosen To Direct ‘Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows’?

Speculation over the final Harry Potter movie, and who will do directing duties on The Deathly Hallows has been building for the last few months. Now, an author may have succeeded in ending all of the rumours by giving away the answer on her blog.

The last two months has seen many names in the frame, including Steven Spielberg, and Guillermo del Toro, but it looks like David Yates could be the man for the job.

According to Dark Horizons, Lois Lowry has been awaiting a film adaptation of her book The Giver, with Yates directing. On her personal blog however, she reveals that work on that will now be delayed to allow Yates to work on a different project.

“Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years.”

“Maybe the opening of this film could be held simultaneously with my celebration-of-life service after I succumb to old age? Or the producers will decide to get a different director. Stand by. But without holding your breath.”

Yates has already directed Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix and is currently working on sixth instalment Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.

He did a good job on Order of the Phoenix, but I can’t help wishing there was a big(ger) name being brought in to send the series out with a bang.

Unless of course, the rumours of the seventh book being split in to two films are proving true, and Yates is only going to be responsible for one part? We’ll have to wait and see I suppose, as no official announcement for the plans have yet been made.
