‘Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince’ Going 3D In IMAX Theatres

I was as disappointed as every other Harry Potter fan in the world, and there are a lot of us, when Warner brothers suddenly decided that a November release date wasn’t good enough for Voldemort and company, and instead moved The Half-Blood Prince all the way back to July, 2009. But there could yet be sunniness on the cloudy horizon.
Coming Soon reports that the next Harry Potter movie will now include 25 minutes of IMAX 3D sequences, which tops the already impressive 17 minutes that were included in Order Of The Phoenix.
Rich Gelfond, the Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of the IMAX Corporation told shareholders during the IMAX Corporation’s 2008 Q2 Earnings Report conference call that:
“We believe this film will include approximately 25 minutes in IMAX 3-D split between the opening sequence of the film and the finale.”
Now I know it isn’t much of a consolation at being told we’d have to wait another 9 months before getting the see the next instalment in the best-selling franchise, but it is at least something. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince will open worldwide in IMAX and conventional cinemas on July 17th, 2009. The countdown starts here.
