The new Indiana Jones film The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull has done phenomenally well in its first weekend of release, and the series return has captured the imagination of all those who saw the original trilogy as well as a new generation of fans.
Both I and Kirsten went to see the film at the earliest opportunity and reviewed it, with mine here, and Kirsten’s here. We both thought Harrison Ford did a good job revisiting the title role. However, is the success of this role reprisal likely to make Ford keen to revisit other characters in his film career?
The other big franchise Ford was involved in of course is Star Wars, but according to Digital Spy, he is not likely to revisit the role of Han Solo which he played for the first three films:
“Han Solo isn’t interesting to me. It’s a very narrow sort of utility in the story and it was great for my career and it was fun to play at the time but I wouldn’t go back there again. Those pants!”
“There are characters that it seems to me are worth re-exploring given that the story advances your understanding of the character, deepens your relationship to that character and takes you into an area that’s new and unexpected.”
“Some characters are decidedly one-off kind of characters. Some characters don’t outlive the movie.”
This isn’t really a shocker seeing as there isn’t likely to be any more Star Wars films made anyway, except for the already announced animated feature Clone Wars. But it’s a nice thought to imagine a 65-year-old Solo pottering around with Chewbacca in the Millennium Falcon. They’d be like an old retired couple on a road trip to Florida.
