Harrison Ford Talks New ‘Indiana Jones’ Movie – Mutt & Marion

Harrison Ford Indiana Jones

The chance are you either loved or hated Indiana Jones and The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Personally, although it had a little too much CGI and there were some laughable plot points, I consider it the best Indy film yet made.

But the series hasn’t ended yet, with plans to make at least one more sequel with Harrison Ford at the center of the story. After that I suspect we’ll see a spin-off, possibly with Shia Labeouf’s Mutt Lang character at the center. Possibly.

But what of the proposed sequel? At the press junket for Extraordinary Measures, Harrison Ford gave a little more information about the possible direction of the series to MTV Movies.

He spoke of the development of his and his son Mutt’s relationship:

“I think it would be interesting to advance the understanding of the character, as we always have had that ambition throughout the series. I think it would be interesting to deepen the relationship between he and his son [Mutt, played by Shia LaBeouf] and play on that relationship. … It’s full of opportunity. The series is full of opportunity.”

As well as touching on the subject of Indy getting married at the end of The Crystal Skull:

“Karen [Allen]‘s a wonderful actress, I’ve always enjoyed working with her. I’m hoping that there’ll be a part for all of us in the next one.”

Lastly, when should we be expecting the new film?:

“I don’t think I’ll do it in a wheelchair. George [Lucas] is working on an idea, and if it comes to a fruitful stage, all of us are very interested in making another. Some of the best ideas are crazy ideas, you know? Well-wrought, well-manipulated.”

I say the sooner the better. Finish Indiana Jones‘ story off neatly and let Ford pass the mantle on to someone else, Shia or otherwise. Just drop the aliens and tone down the over-the-top action a little.
