Haley Talks About His Freddy Krueger

So this is what happened to Kelly Leak after he washed out of the minors.

Some of you may have been scared to death by Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. Okay, you may have been seven years old at the time and not particularly discerning on the finer points of acting, and maybe you might have felt a little different a few years later when you watched “Nightmare” and its decreasing quality sequels again. You might have thought that Englund’s Freddy was getting a little campy rather than scary.

If you felt that way, then you may be happy to hear Jackie Earle Haley talk about his take on the role in the upcoming “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake. Haley told the MTV Movies Blog, “”You know, I think my Freddy is just a bit more serious.”

I guess what he means is that he’s playing it straight, with no wink wink nod nod, aren’t we all having a good time air. It’s sort of like when you do comedy, you don’t play the joke, you play the scene.

So what do you think? Are you looking forward to seeing Haley’s take on the character? Or do you think he’s being just a bit insulting to the great original, Robert Englund? “Nightmare” aficionados, discuss amongst yourselves.

I grew up on Freddy Krueger movies. My dad was a sci fi fan and luckly I wasn’t a sheltered kid. I wasn’t scared to death but something about that face and that voice made the movie. The idea alone about something coming for you after you fall asleep makes a great horror flick, but for me, having someone other than Robert Englund playing Freddie just isn’t right. I’d like to know if he was asked and turned it down or if he wasn’t considered at all. Robert Englund, you’ll always be my Freddy!

Yeah Robert E. was asked to do it, but he didn’t want too. I didn’t like the idea of them doing a remake myself, but no matter what we think, they will do it and they had to get someone so they got JEH who is awesome and the only reason i’ll be going to see this movie is because of him. Do some research on the making of the remake there’s tons of stuff out there that will answer your questions!

Truth, I was verrrryyy disappointed when I heard that Robert Englund would not be playing Freddy. I have been a Freddy fan for a lifetime. I’ve got the Freddy Doll, every Nightmare movie and my mom dressed up as Freddy for my 7th birthday. I love Robert Englund, when i was a kid it was becuase Freddy was terrifying but as I got older it was because of Freddy’s, I know people are gonna think it’s weird but… his coolness. Freddy wasn’t your typical monster/villan. He had a smoothness about him. You were scared but you liked him. I’m truly gonna miss that. I am however very interested in seeing how Mr. Haley will portray the classic foe. I’m sure it will be a fresh take and honestly I am hoping I’ll be a little scared. I’m actually leaving my home in 20 mins to catch the 12:01 showing. Sweet Dreams all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m back!!! I read that this was a remake but that really didn’t hit me until I started watching the movie. It was a pretty ok movie but I’m not sure I really liked the way they changed up the story. I think that the the original plot was more sinister. If anything the story idea makes it more realistic, i guess I could picture it really happening. But anyway, enjoy it everyone! It was worth seeing.

Well i know that Robert Englund wont be playing Freddy this tim, but its still a good movie no matter what. I should know, i was named after a nightmare on elm st. part five, the dream child. Yep, my name is Jacob Daniel. My mother was a huge Freddy fan growing up, and I grew up into it. I am a little disappointed about the lack of the same Freddy, but it’s still gonna be good… I hope.
