Russell Crowe is actually almost free to do other movies.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Russell Crowe has signed on to star in “The Next Three Days,” a remake of the French thriller “Pour Elle” (that’s “For Her” for those of you who lack even junior high French). Paul Haggis is writing, directing, and producing.
The film is about ”a married couple thrown into a harrowing situation when the wife is imprisoned for a murder she claims she didn’t commit and the husband must devise a way to get her out.” Crowe would presumably play the husband. Who should play the wife? Umm…let’s see. Do we want to go with one of those “she’s young enough to be his grand-daughter scenarios?” If yes, then I’ll give it to Kate Mara. For no reason other than she’s pretty good and she’s a member of the football Giant family. If, however, the producers decide to–shockingly–cast someone near Crowe’s age, well…I’ll say Julianne Moore. I guess I’m lobbying for a redhead no matter what.
The really fascinating news in this report is this sentence: “The WME-repped Crowe is finishing up filming on Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood.”" Who thought we’d ever see THAT? I mean, the Robin Hood movie has only been in the works for about three years. It’s been through rewriting, reimagining, recasting, and recrimination. It’s been the source of constant rumors. And now it’s actually almost done. Who’d a thunk it?
