Gyllenhaal’s “An Enemy” Adds Laurent, Gadon, and Rossellini

Melanie Laurent will get dragged into Jake Gyllenhaal's mess.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s next film is called “An Enemy,” but it could just as easily be retitled “Jake and the Girls!” Well, except it’s a thriller, not a 1960s Vegas act.

Deadline says that the film has added three actresses to the cast: Melanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon, and Isabella Rossellini. And it’s a good thing, too–they’re supposed to start shooting next week in Toronto.

Denis Villeneuve is directing Javier Gullón’s adaptation of José Saramago’s book “The Double.” Here’s the story: “Gyllenhaal plays a history teacher living a quiet life with his girlfriend until he discovers a physically identical man living nearby with his pregnant wife. The teacher stalks his double until the couples’ lives become intertwined with lethal consequences.”

I guess Gadon and Laurent are playing the wife or girlfriend. Rossellini could be some mysterious beautiful older woman (I’ve seen her in person and trust me, she is still stunning).

By the way, Jesse Eisenberg is starring in an adaptation of Dostoevsky’s novella “The Double,” a story where a man meets his double and is driven mad. What’s up Hollywood? What’s going on with all the doubles stories?

And in an interesting set of links, Laurent stars with Eisenberg in his next film, “Now You See Me.” It’s all connected…
