Gyllenhaal Considers “Source Code”

Just Jake.

Variety reports that Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in “Source Code,” a sci-fi thriller. Duncan Jones is directing Ben Ripley’s screenplay (which is getting some rewrites from Billy Ray).

“Source Code” is about “a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it.” Nice to see Gyllenhaal getting some additional use out of that military research for “Jarhead.”

This project has been kicking around for a while–in 2007, it was planned with Topher Grace in the starring role, and last year Shane Abbess was supposed to have the directing gig. But both got lost along the way and the bigger names take over now (sorry, Topher). Jones, if you’re not familiar with him, is an up and coming bright light, having directed this summer’s well-received ”Moon” (okay, he also is David Bowie’s son, and I’m sure he’d hate it that I mentioned that, but I am).

Filming is set to begin early next year. Gyllenhaal, meanwhile, will be all over our screens soon, with the release of “Brothers,” before the end of this year and of course the big summer movie “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.”
