Some actors make anything they’re in better. Guy Pearce is one of those actors. And if Variety is correct, he’s about to help “Iron Man 3″ be better. Word is that he’s in talks to play a part in the further adventures of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).
The script, by Drew Pearce and Shane Black, who also directs, is said to be based on elements of Warren Ellis’s “Extremis” series from the Iron Man comic books, which focused on” the Extremis virus, a nanotechnology serum that can boost human performance significantly and help the body rebuild from injury.” (Thanks to Vulture for the plot info.) Pearce would play Armon Killiam, the geneticist who “co-created the Extremis technology that Iron Man adopts after Killian sells it to terrorists.” The villain of the piece (presumably one of said terrorists) will be played by Ben Kingsley. “Iron Man” stalwarts Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow will return as well.
Pearce can play anything, from super-refined (think “The King’s Speech”) to sleazily refined (think “Mildred Pierce) to incredibly complex in all ways (think “LA Confidential). Oh, and don’t forget action (the current “Lockout”) and Westerns (the much, much better “The Proposition”). He is an acting superhero. Have I made my feelings clear yet? Get this deal done, Marvel!
Disney has set IRON MAN 3 for May 3, 2013.
