Just two days ago, my fellow writer Kirsten posted about Guillermo del Toro talking about The Hobbit… again. And now he’s at it yet again! Seriously, the man doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. Not that I’m complaining really – it’s good for us fans, but come on, leave some things to the imagination.
This time around, del Toro (why is the del in lower-case?) spoke to MTV Movies about how the two movies would be put together, and how it would then all fit in to the already existing Lord Of The Rings universe. He revealed:
“The reality is that we stopped talking the first movie and second movie, and we just started taking about the movie – the two episodes, or two parts, as if they were a single piece of narrative,”
“We don’t even call it the bridge movie, we just call it ‘The Movie.’ And this is great. When we found what reverberated, and we found it in one of our virtual meetings – we understood. It’s a movie.”
“We all agree that if we do our job right, it should all feel like a continuous journey. That’s what we’re striving for. You should see a movie that’s five pictures long. If we do our job right, you put in ‘The Hobbit’ and you wind up watching the entire Pentology!”
I like this, the two movies should be just like one narrative, as that would tie in brilliantly with The Lord Of The Rings, written as one book and then split in to three parts. As del Toro says, it also means we’ll then have five films to watch in a row which all slide in to each other and compliment each other.
I do wonder if del Toro is going to carry on revealing different things about the movie once filming begins. My guess would be no, as Peter Jackson is likely to put the kibosh on it. So I suppose we should all make the most of the tidbits del Toro is feeding us right now.
