I love how Marvel is being so slow and deliberate about casting “Guardians of the Galaxy,” because that means that we still have plenty of casting rumors to mull over. Now Latino Review has a few names to add to the rumor mill.
Their sources tell them that Wes Bentley, Cam Gigandet, and Chris Lowell have been added to the lengthy list of actors in contention for the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (I had no idea who Lowell was, so I just looked it up and it turns out he had lengthy runs on the TV series “Private Practice” and “Veronica Mars,” and also was in the movie “The Help”). Other actors who have reportedly been considered for the role include Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, Zachary Levi, Sullivan Stapleton, Garrett Hedlund, and James Marsden. The Joseph Gordon-Levitt rumor quickly died when he opted to join “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”
Meanwhile, the other rumor is that Marvel has been asking about Adam Sandler’s and Jim Carrey’s availability. Obviously they’re not up for Star-Lord–their superhero ships sailed long ago–so what’s up? LR suggests that they could be in the running for voice work for Rocket Raccoon or Groot, two non-human Guardians. I love the fact that there will be a superhero movie featuring a battling raccoon. I think I’d rather have Carrey over Sandler, though; a little bit of Sandler’s voice goes a long, long way.
Anyway, these are still in the rumor stage, but we’ll see what happens. Hopefully something soon.
