Gran Torino: Clint Takes the Wheel

Gran Torino

Clint gets ready to drive a Gran Torino…just like Starsky & Hutch!

Variety is reporting that Clint Eastwood is set to direct and star in Gran Torino. This will be his first onscreen appearance since 2004′s Million Dollar Baby.

Eastwood’s last directorial efforts were the 2006 companion pieces Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. His next release, set for November 7, is Changeling, a ”child abduction drama” starring Angelina Jolie (wait…a child abduction drama starring Angelina Jolie? The comic possibilities are too much. Please insert your own joke about a movie star well-meaningly trying to adopt an entire third world nation).

But Gran Torino won’t be far behind; news about the film came out when it quietly appeared on Warner Brothers’ list of December releases. No word whether it’s shooting already or if Eastwood, always on time and under budget, is just getting ready to put it together quickly.

There also isn’t any info about the story or what kind of part Eastwood is playing. All we know is that there was a ’70s car called a Gran Torino, probably most famous for being TV cops’ Starsky & Hutch’s car of choice. So does this mean that this could be a grumpy old Starsky & Hutch type of movie? The guys reunite to solve one last case 30 years after the fact? Would Clint be Hutch? Of course, it could be something completely different. It could be a wacky romantic comedy with Clint playing a wedding caterer who’s just taken on the craaaaaziest job ever–the top secret wedding of Hollywood’s hottest, gossip-page topping young couple!! Can he put together the wedding of a lifetime and still stay true to his ideals? I am so ready for this movie.

The Torino shown here in the picture is non-standard. The front fascia is ’74-’76, but the rear end is ’72-’73.
