Gordon To Be Crowned “King Dork”

If you’re going to be a dork, you might as well be king.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Seth Gordon is in talks to direct “King Dork,” an adaptation of Frank Portman’s 2006 young adult novel.

Here is THR’s description of the book:

“King Dork” centers on teenage misfit Tom Henderson, a student who is tormented by all sorts of cliques and seeks refuge in music. He also attempts to uncover the truth about his late father, who died under hazy circumstances while combing through some books.

Wait, so is Tom looking for the truth about his father’s death by combing through some books, or did his father die combing through books? I hope it’s the latter.

Gordon is certainly not a dork who’s being rejected by Hollywood. He directed last winter’s successful comedy “Four Christmases” and has heist film “Suicide Squad” and comedy “Mr. Romance” lined up. Then, most intriguingly, he is set to direct a feature version of his acclaimed 2007 documentary “King of Kong” (Dear Mr. Gordon, I plead guilty to having your doc floating around in the middle of my Netflix queue forever. I promise to get to it soon.).

“King Dork” is described as acclaimed, but it sounds like pretty standard issue YA stuff to me. I would assume this must mean the writing is exceptional. I have a feeling that it’s going to be one of those movies that tries to establish its eternal coolness through the soundtrack. Not that this is bad, but we’ve definitely been here before.
