Gimli Says No To ‘The Hobbit’

The Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy was and still is a masterpiece. It succeeded for many reasons - a great cast, staying true to the essence of the books, great locations, great direction - and I can still happily while away hours watching each installment in turn.
Now though, Peter Jackson, along with Guillermo del Toro, have the unenviable task of bringing The Hobbit to the big screen just as successfully.
Most of the characters in the Lord Of The Rings don’t appear in The Hobbit, yet some of the cast are being asked back for the prequel of sorts. Hugo Weaving and Ian McKellen are definitely back, but it appears that John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) isn’t interested.
He told Empire:
“I’ve already been asked and to be honest with you, I wouldn’t. I have already completely ruled it out. There’s a sentimental part of me that would love to be involved again. Really I am not sure my face can take that sort of punishment any more.”
He went on to say he wouldn’t be interested in a cameo and he feels that, if anything, The Hobbit is going to be even more challenging to make than the Lord Of The Rings was.
It’s a shame Rhys-Davies won’t be back because he brought Gimli to life spectacularly well. I can’t quite believe he’s turned down the opportunity either because surely it will surely be an amazing production to be a part of.
