The first Ghost Rider film starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes did some great business at the box office, despite some wooden acting (you can’t expect anything else from Cage) and a B-List superhero. This prompted talk of a sequel, with producer and former Marvel head honcho Avi Arad claiming a second film was being developed already.
However, since then the trail has gone somewhat cold, and now Eva Mendes has told MTV Movies that she hasn’t heard anything about a sequel. Which leads me to believe there isn’t one happening. With Mendes playing the main love interest in the first film, you would assume she would be first to hear of any sequel, with the possible exception of Johnny Blaze himself, Nicolas Cage.
The thing is, as much as I enjoyed the hour and half I spent watching Blaze do his thing, there are a lot of other superhero sequels I’d rather see get made.
Marvel recently announced their plans for the next few years, and with Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America and Thor all making appearances before 2011, maybe there’s just no room left for the Ghost Rider?

Yeah, you’re right. I wouldn’t lose sleep if they ‘forgot’ about a Ghost Rider sequel.
Mind you, Eva Mendes was smokin’ hot in that movie – did you notice how Blaze’s flame turned blue every time he was around her? I though that was a nice euphamism – pity it didn’t catch on – “Hey baby, you give me the blue flames…”
