‘Friends’ Movie Not Dead After All?

Friends Cast

Just as I was beginning to accept the fact that a Friends movie was never going to happen, along comes Courteney Cox to once again replenish my hopes. OK, so she hasn’t announced it’s happening or anything, but the fact she’s keen is promising to say the least.

Throughout 2008 and 2009 there were rumors of a Friends movie. All the lead females had their say on it, with Lisa Kudrow the last to do so at the beginning of this year. Sadly, Kudrow appeared to kill off any semblance of hope.

But maybe not. At least if Courteney Cox has anything to do with it.

Cox recently spoke to The L.A. Times about the possibility of a Friends movie. And it seems the success of the Sex and The City movies has had an effect on her way of thinking. She revealed:

“I wish we could do that with ‘Friends’.The thing is, the characters from ‘Sex and the City’ hopped all over Manhattan. On ‘Friends,’ we were always stuck in the apartment and that coffeehouse.”

“I don’t think it’s going to happen. Would [series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman] want to write it? Because they’d have to be involved. I don’t know … a lot of things would have to break just right for it to work. But we’ve daydreamed about it.”

Cox also states that Jennifer Aniston has a great idea for how a Friends movie could work. But that fact doesn’t seem to have persuaded her that it’s going to actually happen. And this does appear to be daydreaming more than any concrete plans.

Still, it’s given me hope that a Friends movie could happen one day. I think it could work, and I’d be the first in line to see the six main characters and all the supporting cast back together again.
