Taylor Kitsch will be all over big screens as “John Carter of Mars” in June 2012.
Are you planning your movie attendance schedule for 2012 yet? Good, I’m glad. So get out your calendar and mark these dates down:
“Frankenweenie” – March 9, 2012 - A 3D feature film based on Tim Burton’s own live action short. This made his reputation when he was just a wee young little goth director. John August wrote the screenplay about a dog whose owner brings him back to life. I probably would cry throughout this movie, even if it was supposed to be a comedy. Interestingly, this date is almost a match for the release this year of Burton’s successful “Alice in Wonderland.” Must like that time of year.
“John Carter of Mars” – June 8, 2012 - This adaptation of an Edgar Rice Burroughs (“Tarzan”) novel has an impressive cast: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church and Willem Dafoe.
It’s about “Civil-War veteran John Carter (Kitsch), who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and Dejah Thoris (Collins).” This has “we really, really hope we’ve found a summer blockbuster adventure franchise” written all over it. Could be fun, could be a disaster. Andrew Stanton directs.
