Ford Says Indy 5 In Progress; Fear Strikes Hearts of “Raiders” Fans

raiders of the lost ark

The original and the best.

To be perfectly honest, there was almost no way “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” could have lived up to the hopes of Indiana Jones fans after an almost twenty-some layoff for the franchise. There’s no way it could have really recaptured the magic of the original, or even the higher points of the not-so-bad sequels from the 1980s. However, although Ford’s charm remained intact, the 2008 film felt dull and messy, with big action set pieces that went nowhere (don’t even get me started on Shia LaBeouf’s annoying Mutt character). It made buckets of money, though, which means a follow up film was inevitable.

And now Harrison Ford confirms that there is a script or story in progress, thus crushing the hopes of those who hoped they might not have to deal with this for another twenty years. People magazine reports that Ford, while in France for the Deauville Film Festival, told Le Figaro:

“The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form,” Ford told France’s Le Figaro. “Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I’ll be very happy to put the costume on again.”

Here’s a hint for the “if the script is good” thing: keep Lucas away from it. George Lucas has many wonderful qualities and is an important figure in film history, but let’s be honest, his story ideas don’t always work. Again, no disrespect intended. I’m just making a suggestion.

No word on shooting dates or anything like that yet, of course.
