We have word from Deadline that five actresses are testing for the lead role in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the sequel that stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/The Falcon.
Here’s the list:
Jessica Brown Findlay
There’s no word on who the character is, but speculation is that it’s Sharon Carter, either the sister or niece of Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwill in the first movie (yes, sister OR niece–comics writers tend to shift things around over time).
So does that mean they want someone who looks like Atwill? If so, Clarke, Brown Findlay, or Poots would fit. If they want to go in the opposite direction, Palmer or Poots would make sense. And does Brie have an edge because she’s on “Community,” the sitcom directed frequently by the Russo brothers? Can’t discount that–it’s their first big movie, maybe they might want someone in the cast they know how to work with.
Personally, I’d probably give it to Clarke or Brown Findlay for no reason other than that I like them. And cheers to Deadline commenter “the north,” who wrote that Clarke will get the role if she comes to the audition and says: “I AM DAENERYS STORMBORN AND I WILL TAKE WHAT IS MINE, WITH FIRE AND BLOOD.”
Oh, and also, there’s word that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow might make an appearance in the movie. No big surprise to me–at this point, don’t we expect all the Marvel characters to just shuttle in and out?
