Angelina goes dark for "Maleficent."
I’m not usually one to scamper around in circles and breathlessly post every teaser of a teaser trailer or photo of a crowd taking photos of a set, but I had to make an exception here. As you can see above, this is the first picture of Angelina Jolie in costume as Maleficent, the villainous fairy who puts Sleeping Beauty to sleep. Of course this movie isn’t called “Sleeping Beauty,” it’s called “Maleficent,” so this time we get some back story about what prompted her to put said curse on Princess Aurora (played here by Elle Fanning).
I loved Maleficent in the Disney animated version of “Sleeping Beauty”–well, maybe loved isn’t the right word, it’s more like I thought she was really cool and terrifying at the same time–so of course I’m very interested in this. Based on this picture–which admittedly isn’t much to go by–it looks good.
In addition to Jolie and Fanning, the cast includes Sharlto Copley, Miranda Richardson, Lesley Manville, Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley, Juno Temple, and Kenneth Cranham. It is scheduled for a March 14, 2014 release.
