Anna Faris is going from bunny to chipmunk.
It’s easy to get actors off topic during those long press junkets. While the MTV Movies Blog talked to Justin Long about his role in Sam Raimi’s soon-to-open ”Drag Me to Hell,” they also got him to talk about the sequel to the surprise success “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” in which Long played Alvin (this absolutely killed my brief childhood infatuation with Alvin, btw–Long is not my dream chipmunk). Long passed on the word that two of the Chipette voices will be supplied by Anna Faris and Christina Applegate. Long said:
“Anna Faris called me,” Long revealed to us, invoking the name of his “Waiting…” co-star. “I hadn’t talked to her in awhile, and I was like ‘Hey, what’s up?’ She said ‘You’re doing the Squeakquel!’ and then something happened and we couldn’t talk anymore. So, I’m pretty sure she’s doing it.”
The Chipettes are Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor–no word yet (at least from the chatty Long) about who will be who, and no word on who will play the third Chipette. Since Long is always in the gossip pages canoodling with Drew Barrymore in some of the moment place, we should probably take his word when he says that Barrymore would not be a Chipette.
Anyway, we have two blondes taking up the Chipette mantle. Good for them, they’re getting a nice paycheck. But in the 1930s, a talented, pretty comedienne like Faris would go from one starring role to another, rather than supporting parts in guy films and voicework in kids’ movies. “House Bunny” did reasonably well, but it didn’t seem to buy her much traction. Good luck, ladies.
