I know not everyone likes Family Guy, or American Dad and The Cleveland Show for that matter. But I do, and I think Seth MacFarlane, the man behind all three shows, is an absolute genius. I never thought The Simpsons could be beaten as a contemporary animated TV series. But Family Guy manages it.
This means I’d be interested in anything MacFarlane had a hand in. And it looks as though he’s going to be heavily involved in a new R-rated feature film called Ted, which EW states he’s in talks to direct.
Ted tells the story of a man and his magical, talking teddy bear. I kid you not. As a child, the man wishes that his teddy could talk, and the bear consequently comes to life and grows up alongside the man. Which is fine until his girlfriend questions the relationship and asks him to choose between her and the teddy.
Ted is going to be a CGI animated movie, with a script from MacFarlane and Family Guy writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. MacFarlane himself is thought to be providing the voice for Ted, with Mila Kunis (who plays Meg on Family Guy) playing the girlfriend.
I’d prefer a proper Family Guy movie, but Ted sounds brilliant in its own right. The story sounds strange, but then who’d have ever thought a talking baby and dog would have made a suitable double act?
