It’s always nice to see Ewan McGregor.
Variety reports that Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of Mira Nair’s biopic of Amelia Earhart. Hilary Swank plays the famous pilot. Richard Gere plays her husband George Putnam, and Virginia Madsen plays Putnam’s first wife, Dorothy Binney Putnam.
McGregor is set to play Gene Vidal, father of author Gore Vidal. In her Earhart biography East to the Dawn, Susan Butler presented evidence that Earhart and Vidal, head of the Bureau of Air Commerce, had an affair. That seems to be the story the film will go with, according to the Variety article. Ronald Bass is writing the screenplay, based on a number of sources.
McGregor’s finishing up I Love You, Philip Morris with Jim Carrey and will work in the Earhart movie after that before starting Angels & Demons for Ron Howard.
Good job, Amelia. While Gere has his charms, McGregor currently has to reign as more crush-worthy, so congratulations on winning the fine Scotsman.
