Eric Bana - Nero

According to inside sources, Australian actor Eric Bana (Munich, Hulk) will be playing a villain named “Nero” in the new “Star Trek” movie being directed by J.J. Abrams.

There is no information to be found on this new character and the only thing that can be gathered from the name is the reference to Roman Emperor Nero who had a reputation for being a brutal leader.

Bana is certainly a great actor but a curious choice as a Star Trek villain. His role in “Chopper” does suggest he could be a violent yet likeable villain. The film really hinges on the casting of Kirk. At present Mike Vogel is rumored to be Abrams top choice.

Production is set to begin next month for a release Christmas 2008 release.

Well at least it’s not Tom Cruise… Someone told me he was in the cast lineup, and I was hoping that he wouldn’t be picked.
