Enough With The CG Animated Movies…

Hop

Is it just me that’s had enough of all these CG movies? I’m not talking about the good ones here, and there are some absolute gems out there. But not all animated movies can be as food as Toy Story 3 or Wall-E. And there seems to be more Alvin and The Chipmunks and G-Force turds heading our way these days.

This feeling has been stirred up mainly by the abortion of a movie that is Hop. It would have been better suited to title it Crap. What? They’re both single words meant to represent what the film is about at its core.

Just watch the trailer and tell me this isn’t a terrible film. And if you read the reviews you’ll see that the full feature isn’t any better. The actors have all opted for an easy payday, and Russell Brand in particular doesn’t seem suited to voicing an animated character. If you’re under 10 years of age then maybe, but otherwise leave well alone.

Then there is the rumor of the penguins from Madagascar getting their own feature-length movie. Seriously? The Madagascar movies are OK, but you know things are looking desperate when the side characters get a movie all to themselves.

This lack of quality control risks bringing the whole genre down, and while it makes the gems look even more shiny and precious, overall it’s making me less keen on new CG animated movies. Am I alone in this?
