Emily Browning may star in "Plush," a movie that's undergoing some confusion right now.
Variety reports that Emily Browning may star in “Plush,” the next film from Catherine Hardwicke. Apparently Evan Rachel Wood was supposed to take the lead role in the film, but scheduling didn’t work out. So here comes Emily.
Here’s how Variety describes the story:
The story will follow a psychic psychologist who sees the memories of his patients to help expel their past demons. But he meets his match when he crosses paths with Browning, who has the same power.
Sounds like pretty standard stuff, right? Maybe not. ComingSoon had this “official synopsis” of “Plush” as an “erotic thriller:”
After losing her band mate and brother to a drug overdose, rising rock star Hayley finds herself in a downward spiral. The second album from her band Plush is received as a critical and commercial disaster. She finds new hope and friendship in Enzo, the replacement guitarist who inspires her to reach new creative heights. But soon their collaboration crosses the line sexually and Hayley, who is married with two children, retreats from Enzo’s advances. As Hayley slowly discovers Enzo’s dark and troubled history, she realizes she may have let a madman into her home and family and that her mistake may cost the lives of people closest to her.
Okay, this doesn’t seem to have been the case of someone just tweaking a script, this is two completely different movies. Browning should hope it’s the former–her last two movies have involved her playing girls who are the object of sexual fantasies while she sleeps, as weird a double as you’re likely to get. She needs to take a break from “erotic.” Her next film, “Summer in February,” has her as part of a scandalous Edwardian love triangle, then, thankfully, she has the lost in the wild thriller “Magic Magic” with Juno Temple and Michael Cera. She could use a few more movies where she’s more than just love object or object of fantasy or things like that.
