Effects Company Denies Being Source of ‘Wolverine’ Leak – Then Who Is?

You’ll no doubt be aware by now that X-Men Origins: Wolverine has leaked on the Internet a full month before it’s due to be released. This is the worst leak yet seen with most movies only becoming available online the day of or a few days after they are released (as soon as someone is able to sneak a video camera into a cinema).

20th Century Fox are obviously eager to trace the origin of the leak. Not only will the culprit likely be made an example of, it could help prevent further abuse of the system the studios and distributors have in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Therefore, both the MPAA and FBI are investigating the incident.

One company has been forced to deny they are the source of the leak. Rising Sun Pictures, an Australian visual effects company, has its logo in full view a few minutes into the version of the movie leaked on torrent sites. But they deny any involvement, releasing a statement saying:

“As we worked on individual sequences within the film, neither Rising Sun Pictures or its staff members have ever been in possession of a full-length version, so it would have been impossible for the movie to have been leaked from here.”

This leaves the culprit or culprits still yet to be identified although I can’t imagine they stay that way for long. The studios and distributors have, or at least should have, learned their lesson by now and made sure they know who is handling the movie at every stage of development. If so, then the perpetrators of this leak will surely get caught.

I’d personally advise against trying to download X-Men Origins: Wolverine at this stage even if you can find the torrent file online. It’s a hot download and probably being closely watched by the authorities. There’s also a chance that the file could have been intentionally corrupted. The final movie is out in three weeks, so it may be better to have patience this time around.
