“Eclipse” in Theaters This Weekend For Bella’s Birthday

Apparently this is Bella at her birthday in “New Moon,” the second “Twilight” movie.
You have to give Summit Entertainment credit. Not only were they the only studio who saw the potential in Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance saga, “Twilight,” but once they had it, they have not missed a chance to make money from it. To wit: I found an announcement on MTV.com (and it’s in a million other place, too) that “Eclipse,” the third film in the “Twilight” saga, will be re-leased this weekend in order to celebrate the birthday of the main character, Bella Swan, played, of course, by Kristen Stewart. I know you know that, otherwise you likely wouldn’t be reading this, but just wanted to make sure.
“Eclipse” deals mainly with Bella’s struggle to decide between werewolf Jacob and vampire Edward, both of whom are in love with her. The catch is that to be with Edward, she has to become a vampire herself. While she’s deciding, the three must also fight off a band of angry vampires who don’t like Bella (high school’s gotten tougher since I graduated–I just had to deal with mortal bitchy Mean Girls, not bloodsucking immortal types).
I am not a “Twilight” aficionado, so I didn’t know Bella’s birthday. Luckily, many others do: September 13th. She also apparently has a “vampire birthday,” which is September 13th. I guess that’s the day she became a vampire. Well, anyway, that covers the span of this weekend, and is enough justification to bring the movie back to first-run theaters.
Originally released in June, “Eclipse” has earned $298,829,151 so far. Summit will begin filming the two-part series finale, “Breaking Dawn” soon.
