Eastwood Joins Eastwood Film

The kid stays in the picture–especially when that kid is the director’s son.

It can be tough working with your parents (really, trust me on this one). It’s got to be even tougher when the parent you’re working with is an international icon. But, probably to no one’s surprise, Clint Eastwood seems to be able to handle it, as The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Eastwood’s son Scott is joining the cast of the film Clint is directing.

Said film is the rugby drama based on the true life story of how Nelson Mandela worked with the head of the South African rugby team, Francois Pienaar, to bring South Africans together during the team’s surprise World Cup run in the early post-apartheid era. Anthony Peckham adapted the script from John Carlin’s book, “Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation.” For a while the move was called “The Human Factor,” but thankfully they seem to have scrapped that and it’s currently without a title.

Scott Eastwood will play a member of the rugby team. He sometimes is billed as “Scott Reeves,” as Reeves is his mother’s name and apparently she and Clint weren’t ever married. Scott worked with Dad Eastwood on “Gran Torino” and “Flags of Our Fathers.” His other films include “Pride” and “An American Crime.”

Morgan Freeman is playing Mandela and Damon is playing Pienaar. Surely this will be the movie that makes us all fall in love with rugby. We need a good rugby movie.
